We got up early to be back at the campsite before the midday heat. After a few minutes drive, we reach the parking lot, which is the starting point of our hike. The 'Diamond Lake/Rocky Mountain Track' promises a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. But what we see after 1 ½ hours of steep ascent is an understatement to call it a 'beautiful view'. It reveals a breathtaking mountain and lake panorama. As always, we tried to capture the landscape for you. Have a look at the pictures. On this hike, we again realize the advantage of getting up early, as we encounter more people coming towards us during our descent within a few minutes than during the entire ascent. This time, we managed to survive the morning without blisters on our feet and spend the afternoon at Lake Wanaka again. With a good book, bright sunshine, and refreshing cold water, the rest of the day passes by quickly.
Tomorrow, we are heading to the West Coast. Planned stops: Fox and Franz Josef Glacier.
