Week 12 Larissa - Kastrosykia

Published: 01.09.2018

After much consideration and research of the various options, we decided to continue further south to reach the west coast of Greece along the Gulf of Corinth. From there, we will head north through Albania and Montenegro to Croatia.

To cover a less interesting route in the heat, we take a train in Larissa and travel about 140 kilometers to Livadia. From Livadia, we get back on our bikes and ride up to 920 meters in altitude to the mountain village of Arahova. It is a Greek ski resort and it's hard to imagine that there could be meters of snow here when it's over 30 degrees Celsius.

After a great descent, we arrive in Delphi. We will stay there for two nights to visit the archaeological site and the impressive museum.

We roll through endless olive groves until we reach the Gulf of Corinth. The subsequent coastal road is fantastic, with mountains on the right, cliffs and small coves on the left, and a view of the blue sea.

At Antirio, we see the huge bridge that connects the mainland with the Peloponnese. Now we are on the Ionian Sea and we ride northwest along the coast. The landscape is very impressive, with bare tall mountains, islands offshore, ancient olive and oak trees, and of course, the blue sea.

At the underwater tunnel near Preveza, our bike ride ends at the toll station. The lady there is strict and adheres to the prohibition sign for cyclists. Since there is no alternative besides the tunnel, she arranges a vehicle from the tunnel company for us. After 30 minutes, we are comfortably transported.

Current mileage: 4956
