From Airlie Beach to our next highlight Hervey Bay it is about 1000 km. That's why we start our first long drive day at Eungella National Park and stretch our legs while looking for platypus. The best times to see the platypus are from early morning until 8 am or late afternoon. Of course, we're there in the middle of the day.
But we're lucky! The platypus we see is about 40 cm long and probably fully grown. Cute little animals. The excursion site itself is also quite lovingly and child-friendly.
Afterwards, there is a very long drive without worthwhile stops. The only exciting thing was a fully grown kangaroo crossing the road. The Australians make an effort to keep the drivers in a good mood. Along the monotonous road, there are signs with riddles and rest areas with free coffee.
At sunset, we visit our caravan park in Rockhampton and rest for the next day. Right next to us, wild peacocks sit on the roof and fly over the path to the tree.
Although this is our 2nd night after the sailing trip, we are still swaying - despite having solid ground under our feet.
