As the title of today's blog suggests, this morning I left Valencia with Cartagena set as my day's destination. However, things turned out a bit differently. But let's start from the beginning:
Shortly before nine, I set off during rush hour from Valencia, which is just as bad as in all larger cities. Initially, I headed south along the coast; the area was of limited beauty (lots of industry). Then came the shock. After almost being left in awe yesterday by the impressive architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences, today my route was lined with the monotonous apartment blocks already known from Benidorm and other Spanish coastal towns. This was architecture that didn't deserve the name.
Then it was into the mountains (at least up to 1000m - the air noticeably got thinner 😂), but on wonderfully winding roads with many twists and turns. Pure enjoyment!
There are explicit warnings about unpleasant things in this country.
And I almost packed a small olive tree. But unfortunately, the space in the top case was insufficient.
Weather-wise, dark clouds loomed, which opened their gates from 3:00 PM. Agriculture was surely thankful, but I still had 100km to Cartagena. While enjoying a coffee, I decided to call it a day and found a place to stay in Torrevieja, propping my feet up. By now, it's dry again.
