Hike to the Salty Spring and La Bouboule

There is the “Le cirque de la Fontaine Salée” which led us through a nature reserve.

The hike was quite varied, going through forests, past fields, and offering beautiful views of the surrounding volcanic rocks.

We did not find the “salty spring” directly, but we saw the water flow in the valley.

Afterwards, we drove to the village of La Bourboule.

Here, you can still see that it was once a popular spa resort.

The casino and the large thermal spa remind us of those times, even if some of the beautiful old houses from the Belle Époque need renovation today.

The Dordogne flows through the entire town, past the spa park and the town hall.

The arsenic-rich water is primarily used to treat skin and respiratory diseases.

We drove back to the campsite above Mont-Dore, which we would be leaving tomorrow to head back north in the region of Puys de Dôme.
