Drottningholm Palace and ABBA Museum - Stockholm by motorhome

On our way to Stockholm, we stopped at Drottningholm Palace, which is the residence of the Swedish royal family just outside the Swedish capital.

We toured the interior of the palace along with many other visitors.

There were many visitors in the palace, including several groups.

We looked at the various rooms and listened to the comments from the audio guide, which could be downloaded for free to your phone.

Afterwards, we walked through the park, which is mostly accessible to the public.

We walked to the Chinese Pavilion and took a break at the café located in the old kitchen of the pavilion's dining room.

We then continued our journey to Stockholm, where we battled through the city traffic to our parking spot on Långholm Island.

On that day, we wanted to visit the ABBA Museum and took a train and ferry to Djurgården Island, which houses several museums. 

A long line was waiting in front of the exhibition for the famous Swedish music group, and we found out that the next available tickets would only allow us entry an hour later. So we bought them and then walked a bit around the island.

By the water, we encountered a free exhibition of four museum ships that could be visited.

We saw a “lighthouse ship” that had once served as a marker at sea.

Additionally, we could explore an old icebreaker.

Then it was time to head back to the ABBA Museum, where we explored the exhibition about the four musicians.

Despite having a time slot ticket, it took us about 20 minutes to get through the entrance and start our tour.

An audio guide provided detailed information about the individual artists and the band, so we stayed in the exhibition for almost two hours.

On our way back, we went to Skeppsholmen Island and walked along the shore.

Along the water to the old town, several stages had been set up, as the “Cultural Festival” was taking place in Stockholm that weekend.

We saw a small parade and weaved our way through the crowd to get back to the subway to our parking spot.
