Katthult and Bullerbü - Following Astrid Lindgren's Tracks in Sweden

Today we set out to explore the places we had heard about in our childhood: We traveled to the filming location of the movies about the mischievous boy “Michel from Lönneberga”. Since our childhood days are somewhat behind us, we listened to some of the stories again as an audiobook on the way…

The Gibberyd farm was chosen as a filming location in 1970 because it is an old, traditionally Småland farm that resembled the descriptions in Astrid Lindgren's tales.

Most of the film's scenes were shot at the farm or in its surroundings. Residents of the area were also involved as extras or for smaller roles.

As more and more visitors came to the farm, the owners eventually began to partially open it to the public and charge admission.

On a tour, visitors can see various filming locations again - for example, the stable or the flagpole from which Michel lifted his sister Ida.

Another book by Astrid Lindgren tells the story of the “Children from Bullerbü”.

The small place Sevedstorp was said to have served as inspiration for her story and became a filming location in the 1980s.

In addition to a café, there are a few pretty red wooden houses (on the outside) to see and a petting zoo with rabbits.

Among children, the hay barn was particularly popular, where one can - as in the books - jump into the soft hay from above.

After an overnight stay, we continued on to Öland.
