Charroux - one of the most beautiful villages in France

The small village is the only one in the Allier department that is listed among the “most beautiful villages in France.” (In France, lovely places are often marked with small awards like “Flower Town,” “small place with character”...)

Today, less than 400 people live in Charroux - in the Middle Ages, there were still 5000.

It is a well-preserved medieval fortified village with narrow streets and city gates.

We wandered through the small town center, where there are now many shops and restaurants for visitors.

We also visited the church, whose tower was likely “decapitated” by a lightning strike in the 17th century and is still preserved in this state today.

The motorhome parking lot located a bit outside offered a beautiful view, which we took advantage of for our lunch break before continuing on.

We spent the night in Val-de-Meuse and planned to leave France the next day.
