Hike
The name of the city Riom means “the beautiful one”, which it partly is.

It was built from dark Volvic stone, and some houses in the old town are well preserved.

There aren't many major tourist attractions, apart from two larger churches:

Church of Notre-Dame-du-Marthuret

While the Église Notre-Dame-du-Marthuret is in a state of serious need of renovation, the city's main church looked significantly better preserved.

Basilique St-Amable

The Basilique St-Amable is dedicated to the city's patron saint, who was a church prince in Riom in the 5th century.

The bones of Saint Amable are kept in the church and displayed in a reliquary.

On Monday, not only the museums but also all the shops and many cafes were closed, so our stroll through the city was quite short.

However, we were able to visit the “Tour d'Horloge”, an octagonal bell tower.

Clock Tower

A small exhibition provided information about the history of the city and region.

From the top, there was a beautiful view over the old town.

In the city, the French street artist “Invader” has left small mosaics in various places, which we discovered during a tour using the app “Adventure Lab”.

Since the tour through Riom hadn't taken very long, we decided to go on another hike a few kilometers away and drove to Enval.

Enval

There you'll find the “Sentier de l'APAGE”, which we followed.

Actually, the road passes several waterfalls, of which we only saw one, and which was currently only dripping very sparsely.

The hike was still beautiful and led through the forest with some elevation gain.
