Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine is a dreamlike national park in Chile. Various glaciers mark the border with Argentina.

In summer, a strong wind blows here. The combination of the sun (heat) and the glaciers (cold) creates a significant temperature difference, leading to powerful winds. Last week, the wind speed in the middle of the park reached 120km/h. Once, the guide reported, the wind shattered the windows of a bus. Even today, the winds were strong, but the tour was able to take place. Tomorrow, we won’t be so lucky: our horseback riding excursion was canceled due to the wind strength. What a pity...

In winter, however, it is calm here, but there are only up to 6 hours of daylight. So no matter when: Hiking here is challenging.

At the end of the trip, we visited a large cave where the skeleton of a milodon was found - today these are sloths ;-)
