5. Bocas del Toro - Dolphin Bay Hideaway

Published: 28.02.2022

This time we traveled with a tourist shuttle. Ten tourists in a minibus as fast as possible to Almirante please! Of course, not everyone here follows the mask requirement. Feels rather stupid.

And finally.. Bananas!!!!!!!!! Almirante seems to be a major hub for Chiquita. Otherwise, it's just annoying there at the harbor, transport mafia everywhere, the same crap everywhere. So we wait annoyed until we can continue. After Sascha asked when we would continue, as we had to catch our transfer boat to Christobal, suddenly it went very fast. And of course, now the tourists were too slow. Ridiculous. But we just managed to catch the transport connection, there were already four people in the boat. Very nice people, as it turned out during the day. A couple from Austria/Liechtenstein and one from Germany.

Our common destination was the Dolphin Bay Hideaway on Isla Cristobal. And fittingly, a few dolphins were swimming through the bay when we arrived.

We landed in one of the most beautiful hideaways we have visited so far. A great garden, a quiet bay, really nice hosts, a little sloth that they are raising...

Just sitting and staring, waiting for dolphins, watching the many birds would have been enough to keep someone busy the whole day. Apart from that, of course, you could paddle around the bay with a kayak or SUP, because it was mostly calm and with a perfect temperature of about 25 degrees to swim.

And at night there was a real spectacle, because there was bioluminescence in the water. Truly one of the most beautiful and magical things we have ever seen. But magic means that you can't hold on to it, taking photos of it - impossible.

Once we took a trip to Zapatilla Island. Mmh, quite a lot of people did that too. It took a bit of the magic away from paradise. Nevertheless, it was an island as you imagine it in the Caribbean. Two snorkeling spots were also part of it. A small reef with nurse sharks and a very colorful soft coral world to admire.

Several times we went into the forest with the host Brian and looked at what came across our path and flew. Sloths, many frogs in the most colorful colors, howler monkeys and toucans were among them.

We really enjoyed the time, but now we're moving on, back to the real sea, with waves and all that.

By the way, it still doesn't smell like bananas!
