Temple set

Published: 05.11.2025

Temples galore.
Angkot Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Phrom, Bayon, Baphuon, Kleang, Preah

Khan, Ta Som...

We sometimes can't even identify the locations in the pictures without research – every temple is different. Sometimes high up, sometimes deep in the forest. Sometimes overgrown, sometimes freestanding. Sometimes surrounded by water, sometimes by dry paths. Each one is unique and beautiful. In each one, people pray, laugh, tell stories, greet each other, and take photos. Full of pride. I was there. Candles, incense, Buddhas large and small, golden cloths, lotus blossoms. Reverence.

We bought a 7-day ticket right at the beginning – and used it to its fullest. Every visit was worthwhile :-)

After discovering that the visa extension would take longer than expected due to three public holidays, we decided to fly to Saigon next Saturday. It's the three-day Water Festival, marking the end of the monsoon season. There were supposed to be numerous ceremonies, including the often-mentioned and celebrated boat races on the rivers – or so we thought. Due to the conflict with Thailand, all resources are needed at the Thai border, so there's little to no spectacle around us. Nevertheless, there are many visitors in the city; a visit to Angkor Wat is always worthwhile :-).

Everyone is first surprised and then delighted
Despite the crowds... a quiet spot has been found.
