From Los Angeles, we headed to 29 Palms, located about 250 kilometers away, where the landscape transformed into sandy deserts. This area is in close proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, nestled between the Mojave and Colorado deserts. We spent several hours in the park marveling at the namesake trees, as well as the bizarre rock formations and blooming cacti.
Continuing our journey along Route 66, we headed towards Colorado. Along the way, we made a stop in Amboy to visit the famous Roy's Café, a landmark on Route 66.
In the late afternoon, we arrived in Laughlin, right on the banks of the Colorado River. We checked into the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, getting our first taste of the upcoming Las Vegas. During an evening stroll along the riverbank, we enjoyed the tranquility and the gently flowing Colorado River, while watching raccoons by the shore.
