On our journey to Runde, we can see the Bøyabreen glacier directly from the road, impressively large and close to view.

The most accessible and spectacular arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier is the Bøyabreen glacier in Fjærland.

In Fjærland, about a 30-minute drive from Sogndal, you can experience the Bøyabreen glacier, an arm of the mighty Jostedalsbreen glacier. From the road, you can view the Bøyabreen glacier up close. The Bøyabreen glacier is steep and prone to ice erosion. Its highest point is over 1,700 meters above sea level, and its lowest point is about 600 meters.

On this route, we use two car ferries, from Lote to Anda and just before Runde, Koparneset - Arvika. You can directly reach the island of Runde via a bridge.

The 428-meter long, single-lane bridge was opened in 1982. With construction costs of around 62 million kroner, it was at that time, based on the approximately 150 inhabitants of the island of Runde, the most expensive bridge in Norway. To continue allowing larger ships to pass through Rundesund, the bridge was built 28 meters high.

The bird cliffs of Runde Island are one of the largest tourist attractions in the Sunnmøre region.

In the evening, we take advantage of the wonderfully beautiful weather and hike to the viewpoint for puffin watching. It is incredibly beautiful to observe the puffins so closely and in such numbers. Also, the breathtaking view of the Norwegian landscape.
