Today we are heading to Slinde. We are taking the route through Flam, Auerlandsvangen. This route is characterized by beautiful landscapes, fjords, and many waterfalls.

The Tvindefossen waterfall is located in the Norwegian municipality of Voss (Vestland county), about 12 kilometers north of the main town Vossevangen, right by the European road E16.

 FactsMunicipality: Voss (Norway)Province/Fylke: Vestland

Location: 12 km north of Vossevangen on the E16 towards Flåm Gudvangen

Special feature: The approximately 116-meter high waterfall cascades down a wide rock face in steps and is easily accessible from the road.

The Kjelfoss is a waterfall in the Norwegian municipality of Aurland in the village of Gudvangen in the province of Vestland. It is situated on the important highway E16 from Bergen to Oslo and is located in the World Heritage Park Nærøyfjorden. The total height of the waterfall is disputed. The Norwegian Central Statistical Bureau lists it at 840 m, making it the highest waterfall in Norway. Other sources, such as the World Waterfall Database, indicate a height of 705 m.

The Kjelfoss cascades in several stages, with the largest free fall height being about 198 m. The waterfall is part of an unnamed stream draining Lake Kjelfossvotni at an elevation of 1180 m. It consists of three arms, which are also referred to as Vetle Kjelfoss and Store Kjelfoss. The third and smallest arm is unnamed and is only visible during snowmelt or heavy rain. The three arms merge in the Kjelfossjuvet gorge, forming the river Kjelfossgrovi, which in turn flows into the Nærøydalselvi.

The name Kjelsfossen (Kettle Waterfall) is said to have originated when a milk girl forgot her kettle in the river, which was then swept into the waterfall. The Store Kjelfoss is also locally referred to as Brudesløret (Bridal Veil).

In Flam, we make our coffee stop, wonderfully by the fjord in great sunshine, watching the incoming ships. Then we continue along the Auerlandfjord, where we make a detour to the viewpoint Stegastein. Simply breathtaking this view over the Auerlandsfjord. The drive to the viewpoint is somewhat narrow, but you are rewarded with such an overwhelming view. Our accommodation is directly by the beautiful Sognefjord.
