Even tonight there were faint Northern Lights to admire. In the morning, we arrive in Trondheim on a beautiful sunny winter day. We are allowed to admire the Trollfjord during the departure from Trondheim, always impressive how such a large ship calmly sails along. In Trondheim, we visit the beautiful old Bryggen houses, the old town with the old bridge, Gamle bybrua, and then we take the time to visit Nidaros Cathedral. Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim (former name of the city: Nidaros) is one of the most significant churches in Norway, it is considered a national sanctuary. Since 1152, it has been the cathedral of the Norwegian Metropolitans. Because the shrine of Olaf the Holy stood behind the high altar here, the cathedral was also known as the "Heart of Norway". After the Reformation, it became the cathedral of the Lutheran bishops of the Diocese of Nidaros. Since 2011, it has also been the seat of the newly created office of the Chair of the Norwegian Bishops' Conference. During our journey through the Trondheimsfjord, we see the Kjeungskjaer lighthouse, which was built in 1880, is 20 meters high, and is the only octagonal lighthouse in Norway.
