Varadero

Published: 30.09.2018

With a taxi colectivo, we arrived in Varadero. It is a long stretch of land and apparently one of the most beautiful beaches in Cuba - again. We went to our host family and settled in a bit. At the same time, we also prepared ourselves for the upcoming flight. Things we no longer needed ended up in our backpack.

Our host mother then came to us and said that we could use her internet (which she tapped into with a self-made antenna from the official provider). But oh wonder - the internet didn't work like in the rest of Cuba in about 99 out of 100 cases ;-) .

We didn't really feel like doing much sightseeing anymore. Instead, we enjoyed the remaining days at the beach. The beach was really beautiful, but unfortunately the locals leave a lot of trash lying around (chicken bones, plastic cups, etc.). Well, after getting a bone in my foot for the fifth time, we simply confiscated two beach chairs from the hotel.

On the last day at the beach, Muriel encountered a little cat. Of course, she had to pet it (as it should be) and she really enjoyed it. Suddenly, however, it scratched her and she got bitten on her hand. The bloody bite was promptly cleaned by our host mother with high-proof rum. Luckily, we had antibiotics with us...

(No, not the cat - it was nice)

After two days, we made our way to the very last stop after 7 months, Havana. It is an incredibly strange feeling to return to normal everyday life after 7 months and to go back to organized Switzerland. But not a negative feeling, rather a very positive one.

The next day, we left and checked into our hostel in Havana.
