Hello, esteemed readers, this year's tour takes us to our neighboring country, the Netherlands. Together with friends - Maria and Ludger (names unchanged by the editorial team) - we want to get an impression from the bicycle saddle, explore nature and sights, and enjoy a few days well - or even better than usual.
Starting point should be Arnhem, i.e. by bike from Bocholt to Empel (the foot pilgrims of the Bocholt-Kevelaer procession will surely remember this stage - whether painful, exhausted, or whatever.
At the Empel train station, we were able to use the non-electrified stair lifts well known from German train stations, which was a welcome change for bikes with luggage.
We took the train to Arnhem and from there, after a short rest at an American burger joint, we headed through the nature reserve 'Hoge Veluwe' with large heathlands and forests to Amersfoort.
The heat was getting to us, a 'quite favorable' apple spritzer provided temporary relief.
After arriving well at the hotel in Amersfoort and having extremely interesting conversations about his now ready-for-pickup bicycle with a titanium frame and Rohloff gear system with a guest from Finland, we found success in the old town of Amersfoort (p): good food, joy in wonderful weather!
