#2/6 - AIDAnova - Bergen

Since we have been quite busy in the past weeks, we are not optimally prepared for the excursions. But we will make the best of it!

Monday was scheduled for the old Hanseatic city of Bergen. I believe it is the second largest city in Norway in terms of population.

As the captain mentioned in his evening address, we will arrive in Bergen “just before 8 o’clock” under the Bergen bridge. So I set my alarm for 7:25 AM, immediately went to the balcony, and enjoyed the entry into the harbor. Elisa stayed in bed. It was beautiful to see (the entry, but watching Elisa sleep was nice too😁).

The summit of Mount Ulriken seems like a suitable spot to overlook Bergen from “above.” Since we were not completely sure beforehand at which terminal we would dock and how to get to the mountain, we booked an AIDA tour for 59 euros per person to Mount Ulriken, including the cable car and, of course, the return trip. This started around noon at 12:15 PM with a bus to the foot of the mountain. From there, we took the cable car (Ulriksbanen) up and explored the plateau on our own. The cable car ride booked via GetYourGuide is a bit cheaper, but we still had to get there.

The weather in Bergen is usually characterized by clouds and rain. Accordingly, one should dress properly. You won’t last too long up there 😅. Nevertheless, it was worth it, and we could see far. During our excursion time slot, it also didn’t rain 👍🏻. After a small snack at the restaurant (prices were reasonable), we took the cable car down. Afterwards, we took the bus towards Nova. Elisa went directly to the ship to warm up. I, on the other hand, got off at the fish market and strolled through the city center. I definitely wanted to see the “colorful houses” that characterize Bergen. I did just that. On site, things turned out to be not that easy. The weather was uncomfortable, and the main road, particularly busy with traffic (especially buses), runs right in front of the houses. Construction work and construction vehicles were busy, many tourists were wandering around... but nevertheless, I took a few pictures and brought back some magnets for us. On the way back, I naturally had to grab a hot dog 😃. I also saw many wooden houses that

stand out with a splendid array of colors. By the way, cash is not needed (Norwegian kroner, the conversion rate is about 1 euro to 12 kroner), as nearly everywhere cashless payment is possible.

On board, I first had a hot coffee. In the evening, we made ourselves comfortable in the Theatrium and let the evening wind down ☺️.
