10th day 29.06.2022 - Guilford City, Beach, Harbor

I enjoyed the peace as I woke up and only heard the birds chirping outside. What a difference from New York. It was so peaceful on this street, which confirmed to me that I made the right choice with the second week in Connecticut.

Today is a relaxing day. So first, sleep in and have breakfast on the porch. We made coffee, toast, cheese, jam, and fruit, sat outside at the porch table, and enjoyed the free time in mild temperatures. Then it was time to do laundry. The washing machine was quickly understood, and the clothesline was hung outside. Then Anne and I wanted to test the bikes that were in the garage. Unfortunately, we didn't understand the combination lock on the door. We handed over the 'problem' to Pauline, who had just passed her high school graduation, but she also needed YouTube and half an hour to understand the system. We grabbed the bikes and wanted to go to the beach, but the seats were so high that Anne almost tipped over like a 'sack'. Since we couldn't find any tools, we put the bikes back in the garage and walked to the beach. The girls wanted to explore the town today. We took the footpath south, in already quite hot temperatures, and found the public beach after a 20-minute walk. I was already sweating after the short walk. The beach was very well maintained, and there was a fee to pay in the parking lot, but only for car drivers. There were also two beach passes in the house for free parking, which we later used. The beach was already busy, but we found beach chairs in the shade and occupied them. The sand was so hot that you could only walk to the water with shoes on. I went straight into the water and refreshed myself. It took quite a long time to get deeper. Then we observed the activities from our chairs. There were two lifeguards for this section of the beach (about 300 meters wide). I thought that was quite luxurious. But there were also many children on the beach and in the water. There were also showers, toilets, and changing rooms. Everything was very well maintained. After about an hour, we went back to the house. The girls were not back yet, so we decided to go to the town as well. Since we were too lazy because of the heat, we drove the short way. We found the girls in the café, where we joined them. Then we explored the shops and the park. Afterwards, we all drove back to the house. I felt like swimming again and went to the beach, where the girls and I jumped into the sea again. Dinner was again on the porch, and when it got dark, we went to the harbor and enjoyed the atmosphere. There was also a TV in the house with HBO access, where we could watch the current Dumbledore movie 'Fantastic Beasts'.
