Our concert tour to Brazil this year began yesterday afternoon.
At 12 o'clock, we gathered in front of the SG, said goodbye to our parents, and after a final speech, we left for Frankfurt together with Thomas Kammel, Tatjana Lenk, Alwina Meissner, and Carmen, Olaf, and Ella Roese at 12:30.
There, our first flight to Lisbon took off with a slight delay around 8:00 PM. We arrived in Lisbon around 10 PM (local time) and walked to our next gate, where boarding for our connecting flight to Rio had already begun. Around 11 PM, we took off, and after a late dinner, most of us tried to get a little sleep.
Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro at 5:30 AM local time, we gathered our luggage and set off in search of our buses. These took us directly to the first highlight: we traveled to the cog railway that took us to the Christ statue. After everyone had made it to the top after a long wait, many photos were taken of the impressive statue of Jesus and the breathtaking landscape of Rio (including the first monkeys). Naturally, this was the perfect opportunity for the first group photo of this trip, even though it was quite challenging to make space for the entire choir among the crowds. After about an hour and the first Caipirinhas, we headed back to the next stop: Copacabana!
Once there, we first had lunch and were already able to soak up the atmosphere of this famous neighborhood. After that, we took the second group photo before having three hours of free time. The majority of the choir jumped into the stormy waves of the Atlantic, while others played soccer with locals on the countless soccer and volleyball courts or went shopping in the surrounding streets.
Afterward, we continued by bus to Petropolis, where we met our first host families, and so after an eventful day, we set off in different directions.
