Munich

Warm greetings from Munich!

I finally had the chance to meet Finn and Maria again. Friends I met in Magdeburg who moved to Munich a few years ago. Since I have always wanted to see Munich, this visit worked out perfectly.

On the first day, I explored the area nearby and found a really cool project for that. An interactive free walking street art tour. During the tour, we got to design and color our own postcards in the style of the 'Blue Riders'. We visited different artworks and learned about them while painting.

Our first stop was the relatively newly built Volkstheater.

This staircase was our first motif. First, we learned about color theory and the basic techniques, and then we got started. However, we were encouraged to deviate from the given colors of the staircase and bring our own version to the postcard.

After that, we walked to the area 'Bahnwärter Thiel'. A beautiful creative, alternative space where one can unleash their artistic potential, but there are also small shops, restaurants, and a club.

Since 2015, the area has been open and offers plenty of room for creativity. Overall, the area is located in the Schlachthof district, which still has parts of a slaughterhouse today, but through various projects, it also has a large graffiti scene.

I felt really comfortable in this place, and I believe many lovely hours can be spent here. The whole area around 'Bahnwärter Thiel' consists of old trains and containers.

In the evening, I cooked together with Finn, Maria, and Ricci, and we had a really nice evening.

The next day, I headed to the old town. Again for a city tour. A stark contrast to the day before. From modern buildings to very old, yet beautiful ones.

However, the exploration tour through the city center was unfortunately dampened a bit by the weather. With cold drizzle, it's not very pleasant to walk around the city for three hours, stopping every few minutes to listen to the tour guide in the cold. He did a very good job and was able to answer general questions well, but I didn't take away super much...

This coat of arms hangs at the town hall, and in the middle, you can see a monk. If you walk attentively through the city, you can find him everywhere. He even rides on every tram.

The end of the tour took place at the famous Viktualienmarkt. Since 1807, the market has taken place daily, except on Sundays and public holidays. All the stalls are arranged around a beer garden that is right next to the famous Maypole. And here too, take a close look, who can spot the monk?

Munich was my first stop in Germany, and I finally got to explore the city in more detail. The postcard tour was a clear highlight alongside reuniting with Finn, Maria, and Ricci. It's good to enjoy time with friends a little longer, instead of just for a few hours.
