Ah Altenburg, a small town in Thuringia. Of course, I had to stop by here to visit my brother and sister-in-law. However, this time there was another reason. A choir project for singing together. Three weekends of rehearsals and then a large concert. And one thing I definitely noticed is that I really missed singing regularly during the first two months of traveling.
I unexpectedly met my brother right at the train station, and we spent the afternoon before the first rehearsal together. Although it still looks quite chilly in the picture, the weather turned into beautiful sunshine, and it was a really lovely spring weekend at the end of April.
The second weekend I participated in coincided with the concert weekend in mid-May.
The main and dress rehearsals took place in the church with soloists and later also with an orchestra. Here are a few impressions of the truly beautiful church.
We performed a memorial concert for the end of the Second World War. The project choir, the Altenburg Cantata, soloists, and the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra.
This concert was a very beautiful experience and showed me how much I missed singing during the first two months of my journey. I also hadn't done this form of choir and orchestra with soloists for a long time. While I do sing in a choir in London two to three times a week, those are weekly church services. I enjoy that very much, but it’s quite different.
Besides the concert, I also enjoyed the time spent with friends and family. This led to a few walks through Altenburg and a lot of quality time.
Two weekends that have done me incredible good. Spending real time with my family and some friends, enjoying good food, playing many games, and a good portion of music. What more could you want?
