Correct! The Acadia National Park. And guess who can't miss this national park? Also correct! Julian and I, of course.
And off we go again. On a Thursday in early November, we made our way to the airport. From there, we flew directly to Boston. It was a short flight, as it only takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Pittsburgh to Boston. After we 'hopped' to Boston, we continued our journey that same day towards Acadia National Park, specifically to Bar Harbor. We finally arrived around 10 PM. But then the shock. We had not booked our accommodation for 2024, but for 2025... Fortunately, our accommodation still had a room available and it was significantly cheaper as well (this makes the Swabian heart bloom)!
We spent Friday and Saturday in Acadia National Park. A beautiful national park! You can hike great trails, but also ride bikes. In the summer, you can even swim in the ocean (but it was too cold for us). There are also fantastic hiking paths along the cliffs and coastline. Of course, you can enjoy sunrises and sunsets in Acadia National Park. We were lucky, the weather played in our favor. It was worth getting up early to drive up Mt. Cadillac and wait in the freezing cold for the sunrise. A great natural spectacle! We also checked out the small town of Bar Harbor. A cute little town with lovely small shops that invite for a stroll. It reminded us a bit of Wangerooge in winter, as sleepy and with similar shops, a bit like home! So if you ever find yourselves in Acadia National Park, take some time for Bar Harbor.
After hiking diligently for two days and admiring the national park, we drove back to Boston on Saturday afternoon. Boston also came highly recommended to us. In hindsight, we can say: A very beautiful city by the sea with a wonderful old town and very few skyscrapers compared to other big cities. After two days of sightseeing with the highlight 'Freedom Trail' and collecting some stamps for our national park pass, we flew back to Pittsburgh.
But another event is also approaching. On Tuesday, we will have visitors from Germany, more specifically from Nuremberg/Ingolstadt. Nessy and Julia, we are really looking forward to you and our joint road trip!
A lot is planned until New Year's. We will be traveling a lot during this time, alternating between summer and winter. We will, of course, take you along so you can also get a bit of sun and warmth from the pictures during the cool winter months!
Best, and unfortunately, rainy greetings from Pittsburgh,
Julian & Tanja
