07/14/2024:

Today, after waking up, I went out, got myself a coffee and some snacks, and went to Hyde Park. There, I read a book and enjoyed the occasional appearance of the sun. Then I got a super spicy curry at an Asian restaurant. The waitress said something to me that I didn't understand. Even though I asked 3 times, I had no clue what she was trying to communicate. I was glad when the right food arrived and it tasted delicious.

07/15/2024:

In the morning, I had coffee and Sarah joined me. However, she left the hotel in the evening to go to Melbourne and become a singer. While sitting in the chill-out area, I met a few more people. One guy wanted to play chess and was completely dismantled, even though he had boasted about how good he was before. And a woman named Nadine. She is quite nice and feels like the only one in the hostel who also goes away to smoke when children are nearby. Everyone else here smokes cigarettes and joints right next to small children, which I find totally uncool. The drug use here is really intense. Everyone, truly everyone, smokes joints constantly. Even my roommate smokes weed in the room, but luckily with a vaporizer so it doesn't smell too strong. Today I applied for my TFN (similar to our tax identification number) and hope it will be sent to the hostel in the next few days. To earn money here in Australia, you need a TFN and also an Australian bank account, which I will take care of in the next few days.

07/16/2024:

Today, I started creating the blog. In the evening, I was at Manuel's hostel, who is flying to Cairns tomorrow, and he cooked pasta for us. I must say, very delicious pasta. We hung out in his outdoor area where I met Etienne. A 29-year-old German who seems nice so far and wants to travel the world.

07/17/2024:

Today I woke up with a bit more energy than the past few days, walked to the Commonwealth Bank, and opened an Australian account. The card will be sent to my hostel in the next 28 days. Once I have this TFN number and the bank card, I will start looking for jobs. After the bank appointment, I was in Hyde Park, got myself a falafel wrap, and finished reading my book.

07/18/2024:

Last night, the couple I was living with changed rooms because they wanted more privacy, which was really good for me as I could finally sleep alone again. Right after waking up, I changed my bed. Now I have the best bed in this room because it's at the bottom and has a more comfortable mattress. Plus, this bed has a curtain that I can close, which is also a big upgrade for me. In the afternoon, I went to the Sydney Tower Eye. At 309 meters, it is the tallest building in Sydney, and from up there, you have a 360-degree view over the city. I actually wanted to do a "Skywalk" up there, but at the reception, I found out that it's only possible with a second person. So, I could only visit the observation deck, which was still cool. I extended my room today until 07/28 as I wait for this TFN number and my bank card to arrive.
