Bangkok, Thailand

After the first two days in Bangkok, my step counter was almost overworked, unlike during the sluggish weeks back in Germany, so I took it a bit easier yesterday and today (Day 3 and 4). After the 'Metal-forever-night', I only went back into the city around noon after breakfast and a morning swim in the pool. I had read that Lumphini Park is an oasis of calm in Bangkok. With skepticism towards this claim, I headed to this park... And indeed, no honking and no frantic waving... and in this tranquility, water monitors roamed the park lazily and mockingly stuck their tongues out at the surrounding tourists... The relaxed athletes in the park used the available high-tech equipment to maintain their summer figures, and there were joggers everywhere... And I didn’t bring my running shoes, what a shame for Schluck Norris... Then I took the subway to get to Chinatown (the subway line is very straightforward in Bangkok)... I wove my way through a variety of alleys in Chinatown, where there is everything from fashion items, blinking lights, fine scents for both men and women... to half roasted pigs or other little creatures... In between, I was persuaded by a local restaurateur to indulge in a delicacy... Well, I wasn’t completely overwhelmed... Evening fell and I headed towards Khaosan Road... That’s where the bear dances... and indeed, numerous pubs everywhere, you are loudly convinced that the local pub/location is the best... I still didn’t dare to try scorpions, alligators, or various insects, but I settled down for the well-known hopfen feast... I declined the numerous invitations for night table tennis. The gentlemen didn’t look capable of convincing me of the advertised ping pong in the dark alleys... I then went leisurely and tired to the bus to return to the hotel territory (the mystery of the bus is quite exciting; the same line occasionally takes different routes and the price always varies; not just red - old battered buses - and blue buses - air-conditioned with the driver wearing a tie)... Today, I strolled around the city a bit after relaxing and reading by the pool... Walked from here to there and used various means of transport to uncover new places and browse through markets, treated myself to a delicious drink to prevent dehydration, and took a touristy long-boat tour through the city's Khlongs... The driver frequently impressed with sudden accelerations... And to the surprise of many - I had explicitly asked the nice ticket seller beforehand - all guests were dropped off at a different location than where the ride began. But the booked hour was also more than up, it also got dark, and the end of the day was approaching... But no problem, you prepare for that... and I have time here, after all ;-)... Tomorrow around noon, I’ll go one station further... if my taxi driver arrives...
