Sihanoukville - unfortunately not worth visiting anymore ...

After the stay in Sihanoukville did not create a great vacation mood - unlike all my previous stops - I was glad to leave there. I had spent my last day almost entirely on the grounds of my accommodation, planning and booking my next stops, reading a lot, and also relaxing a bit in and by the pool. There was actually only a small evening stroll through the city near my hostel in search of food. But even this ultimately ended up with me having my meal delivered… After getting up, enjoying a coffee, and having some dry breakfast bread, I packed my last things in Sihanoukville and grabbed the first tuk-tuk at my door, which would take me to the port. There, I quickly found my ferry company, and after a 45-minute journey on the speedboat, I have now arrived on the island of Koh Rong. Here, the Caribbean blue sea is combined with an incredibly relaxed atmosphere. I noticed this right away when I checked into my hostel for the next five nights… Since my shampoo had spilled over my travel pharmacy during the crossing, I was first busy for 30 minutes cleaning up the mess, with all the medication packages soaked and ending up in the trash. That also creates some space in my backpack… Then I took a small tour around the island (the second largest in Cambodia measuring a maximum of 15 km by 9 km, covering an area of 78,000 square kilometers) and then sat on the dream beach, indulged in delicious food, and enjoyed the relaxed island vibe with cool draft beer and mellow beach music in the background… I thought it would surely be a wonderful time... For the evenings, I equipped myself with suitable insect repellent since there are warnings about the local mosquitoes and sandflies… In the evening, I wandered around the many beach bars; here again, the deeply relaxed atmosphere was palpable. Many backpackers and some dropouts gathered here… The internet works only sporadically, and power outages are rumored to happen occasionally... But that's manageable... The first night was rather short... Starting from 2:30 AM, a rooster crowed continuously until 5:30 AM. At some point, a dog seemed annoyed by this, which then began to bark loudly... well, I can live with that, as I only have limited fixed scheduling where I need to be well-rested... But somehow I think I might have chicken today... (no, definitely not dog ;-)) ...
