Last days on the South Island

We visited the Pancake Rocks. These could be viewed on a 20-minute walk. They are giant rocks in the sea that are stacked like pancakes. The weather was really nice and warm. On this day, we still had a 3-hour drive ahead of us towards Richmond. There we were at a free campsite where three men were living in their car, a broken tent, and digging up half the campsite. They probably thought they were survival artists.

Then we had the Abel Tasman National Park on the agenda. There we visited the Pu Pu Springs. It was a beautiful walk through the forest until you arrived at a clear blue spring. You were not allowed to touch the water to keep it clear. The next stop was the Wainui Waterfall. We walked through a kind of rainforest, over suspension bridges to the waterfall. There were a lot of sandflies there. They look like small flies but they bite and the bites itch like hell. We were bitten on our arms and legs.

We visited Nelson the next day and then drove up to Picton where our ferry was in the evening. We took the ferry for 3 hours to Wellington on the North Island.
