Gilli / Lombok

Published: 26.05.2018

Wednesday we were picked up very early in the morning and driven from Ubud to the sea, where our speedboat was waiting for us to go to Gili Trawangan. It was a big boat, with some people on it. The boat was rocking quite a lot, making people feel sick. After 1 hour of driving, we finally arrived! White sand and turquoise water. The search for a hotel was a bit difficult at first, as the island had no street names or they all had the same name! We asked people, and everyone sent us somewhere else. But luckily, we still managed to find it. We had a quick meal and then explored the island by bicycles. We stopped at a beach bar, had a drink, enjoyed the sun and the sea, and watched the sunset in the evening.

The next day, snorkeling was on the program. We went with a boat and several other people. There were 3 different stops, one to see underwater statues, one for turtles, and one for fish and coral. It was beautiful and the water was so clear. The only bad thing was that the boat was rocking so badly that people felt sick and many vomited. In the evening, we went over to Lombok to Senaru.

First of all, we slept in after a strenuous day. Breakfast, pancakes again. In the afternoon, we walked leisurely and unsuspectingly to one of the waterfalls. At the entrance, they tried to sell us a guide. But we wanted to walk alone and didn't want to spend money for a 25-minute walk. Arriving at the waterfall, everything was beautiful, with a rainbow. Then we walked back the same way. Until we saw a monkey on the path relatively close to the end, we slowly passed by. Everything was still fine. We continued walking a bit and saw more monkeys around the corner. We thought, okay, we can get by! We approached them, but they started growling and chasing us. We turned towards the single monkey. But it wasn't thrilled either and growled at us. Suddenly there were many of them, very close to us, wanting to attack us and probably take our backpacks. The three of us just stood rooted to the spot so that the monkeys wouldn't feel threatened. My arms and legs were shaking. We hoped that someone would come soon and help us, or we looked for a way out. But we stood there for at least 15 minutes like statues. Then our saviors, 3 Germans, came and helped us. They had a big stick that the monkeys were afraid of. We were just relieved and happy that we survived and came out unharmed.
