A Day in Barcelona – Between Highlights and High Spirits
Early in the morning at 8:25 AM, we took the bus and made our way to the heart of Barcelona. Even the drive in made our travel hearts race – and what can I say: Barcelona delivers on its promises. A city to fall in love with!
Our first stop: the Telefèric de Montjuïc. We reached the cable car on foot, which took us to Montjuïc with a breathtaking view over the city – a city mountain full of history, green oases, and perfect photo opportunities.
After that, we took the cable car down and strolled further to the Anella Olímpica, where Olympic achievements were made in 1992, and sports history was written. Currently, football matches are held there as the new renovation of Camp Nou won't be fully completed until 2026.
Afterward, we realized: Barcelona is big. And our feet, rather not. So we wisely decided to take a tour on the red hop-on-hop-off bus. In the best spring weather, we let ourselves be driven comfortably through the city – the wind in our faces, the city map on our laps, and our phones on continuous photo mode. There were endless highlights:
• Plaça d’Espanya – pompous and pulsating
• MNAC – art meets view
• Poble Espanyol
• Fundació Joan Miró – colorful ideas on a white background
• World Trade Center – business meets sea
• Columbus Monument – he points in the wrong direction, but with style
• Barri Gòtic – narrow alleys, great history
• Cathedral of Barcelona – a real goosebumps moment! Our personal highlight!
• Passeig de Gràcia – strolling between Gaudí’s masterpieces
• Casa Batlló & Casa Milà – where walls wave
• Plaça de Catalunya – right in the midst of life
• Port Olímpic – watching yachts and enjoying the sea breeze
• Beach promenade & Diagonal Mar – pure wonderful vacation feeling
Barcelona showed itself from its best side: lively, sunny, charming – almost like us. Especially the cathedral captured our hearts: gothic, magnificent, and simply magical.
After more than three hours full of “Oh!”, “Wow!”, and “Look over there!” we happily drove back to our starting point – with full hearts and full camera memory. A last stroll at the harbor rounded off the day before we returned home by bus.
Tomorrow, we head north – but Barcelona will definitely remain unforgettable.
