Now we are alone again, just the two of us. Today, we are heading to Arles.

Alone again, just the two of us..

We still need to buy bread and groceries, and we are simply orienting ourselves using Google Maps: Les Angles offers both and is located on the other side of the Rhône. Just a hop away.

If the cat can jump 50 meters in altitude.

We pedal steeply up the mountain at the start of the day and are rewarded at the bakery with the best Pain au Raisin. A dream! Crispy, buttery puff pastry with raisins and apple pieces. The best pastry so far on our journey. Unfortunately, we got the last two raisin scrolls. For those who want to try: Patisserie Amaudry, just ride up the hill.

After shopping, we head back towards the river and encounter a roadblock.

Currently, the road cannot be crossed as the trial runs are starting. With the height we have pedaled up, the soapboxes will surely gain a good speed.

Besides a TGV, there is also a Silver Arrow, a stock car. Later, we can cross the barricade and, after some detours due to more roadblocks, we find soapboxes being pulled up by a tractor in the valley. Great atmosphere in the village.

And we continue on the regular bike path to Arles.

The old town of Beaucaire seems deserted on Sunday afternoon; we take a break at Café Le Sam before continuing in the midday heat.
