Avignon

We are riding our bikes into the city; Gabi and Stefan have already taken down their tent as they are staying one night in a hotel near the train station.

First, we go to the train station so the two can buy their train tickets. This process presents some challenges:

1. Longer queues in the service area.
2. One of the two open counters closes at noon for lunch!
3. At the remaining counter, after a considerable wait, Gabi gets 2 bicycle tickets for the desired train. To purchase the tickets, she has to line up again. At the same counter!
4. Others in the queue let her go ahead.
5. After what feels like 60 minutes, ten nervous breakdowns, and total confusion about why tickets can't be sold for bicycle reservations, Gabi appears at the train station plaza with the tickets.

Then we drop off the bikes at the hotel and stroll through Avignon.

The Palace of the Popes

Our final assessment: a must-see.

What else was there

As a farewell, we had a joint dinner at the Grand Café Barretta. Fantastic food, very tastefully prepared, nice service. A top recommendation!
