#12 Alpine Escape

The night and the following morning bring certainty – it rains and it keeps increasing rather than decreasing. When we set off, the initial drizzle has turned into a constant downpour that won't change during the day. Thus, the decision is made. We escape over the Alps to the north and will meet at Lake Constance.

However, we have 400 km to travel, of which 300 km is through Switzerland. But we have the vignette, and the Swiss motorway will help us move forward.

It's only 70 km to Geneva, so we take the country road and save ourselves the French toll.

However, it's moving so slowly that we decide to change plans after just a few kilometers and look for the motorway entrance. Then it goes better – until we reach the first toll station – 22 euros is displayed. I can hardly believe my eyes. Are they kidding, not even 60 km of motorway for €22?

Then we come to the Swiss border before Geneva, and we're over. From now on, we have the annual vignette, which cost only €44, by the way.

Anyone who thinks we can now make good progress (like I did) gets brought back to reality. The Swiss motorway is so congested that we make little progress. Then there are sections that are closed, bringing all traffic to a standstill, and the rush hour traffic (they always have rush hour) around Zurich. It's very rarely that we can drive smoothly, so the crossing through Switzerland takes much longer than planned. We lose more than 2 hours. And that's crucial since our destination is the motorhome site in front of the campsite in Horn on the Untersee (this is the southernmost arm of Lake Constance, which later continues into the Rhine, which we want to follow). But the site has
