SARDA Kent training and drive to Wales

Published: 07.08.2023

On Sunday, Christian and I were at the SARDA Kent search dog team training. SARDA welcomed us with open arms and allowed us to participate in the training. The chairman Stuart Kenny was very warm and open.

It was a great experience because, in addition to many similarities with the BRK search dog team in Traunstein, there were also peculiarities that we viewed with amazement and genuine surprise.

The search areas in Kent are much larger, and a different tactics are used compared to what we have learned for working with the team. I was impressed by how the back pointers work, allowing the dog handler to fully focus on their four-legged partner, as the navigation officer takes care of the first aid. It was great to see all of this!

Today we continued to Cwmdu in Wales. The drive had to deal with some traffic jams, and overall, the supposedly small campsite feels more like the Marina di Venezia, but it's only for two nights.

Christian and I want to explore the Black Mountains in the former Brecon Beacons National Park. I can neither write nor pronounce the Welsh name! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's hike! Croesu i Cymru!
