Day 6/Mon, Part 2 (Archaeological Park of San Augustin)

Now to the actual goal of today: around San Augustin there are several archaeological parks - the largest being the Archaeological Park of San Augustin. Here, numerous stone sculptures dated between 2,000 and 3,000 years old can be viewed. Some look like monsters, others like old chieftains or animals. No one really seems to know what the people of that time wanted to express with them - except that many of them likely stood by or on the graves of chieftains or elders.

The hike through the archaeological park is like a trek through the jungle - almost like in the old Indiana Jones movies. Graves, ancient figures, and strange stones are scattered throughout the jungle. And if chance allows or you look closely, you might even spot colorful butterflies and birds.
