Mein Schiff 7 - The Southern Tip of Europe
20.10. - 27.10.2024
For those who want to avoid expensive taxi costs, taking public transportation is a relaxed option. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.citibus.gi. For 2 day tickets, I paid approximately 15.80€ before the trip. Print the receipt received via email and exchange it with the bus driver for a valid day ticket.
From the ship, it’s about 5 meters to the stop for line 5/10. The buses run regularly, and Google really helps with routes, lines, and departure times.
We first travel 7 stops to Boyd Street Cable Car. However, we don't want to go up, but a few meters further into the Botanical Garden. It’s not very large but very beautiful, in my opinion.
Now we continue to our main destination of the day: the Europoint. For this, we go to the stop Eliott’s Way, which is about 250 meters from the Botanical Garden. With line 2, we ride 9 stops (about 8 minutes) to the Mosque stop. We have reached Europoint, the southernmost point of the Gibraltar Peninsula. On a clear day, you can see the Rif mountains in Morocco.
At Europa Point stands the Europa Point Lighthouse, a 19th-century lighthouse, and the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque. Here you can spend some time.
From the Europa Point stop, we take line 2 back to the city. We get off at King’s Bastion stop. These are 9 stops, about 15 minutes. Right around the corner, you get to Main Street, the main shopping street of the city. Here you have the opportunity to shop or relax in bars, cafes, and restaurants.
If you have more time and desire, you can now take the bus to the other side of the city across the runway. I’ve saved this for my next trip. Either walk back to the ship or take line 2 to the Europa Road stop. From there, it’s 850 meters to the ship.
