We left the campsite only to park a few streets further down.

Today we walked to Gibraltar. Big signs along the road informed us about the border crossing where we left the EU, but there was actually no passport control, not even a formality.

Within just a few meters, we encountered the first peculiarity of the city-state, as we walked across the runway of the airport. Fortunately, we were held up for about ten minutes because a plane was landing and the walkway was closed. After landing, the gates reopened and we were able to pass.

Through The Landport, we entered the heart of the city, the gate was the only land access to the heavily fortified land until the late 19th century. At Casemates Square, we ordered coffee and fish and chips at a local eatery. Now we were practically in Great Britain, and we always preferred the local cuisine. After strolling along Main Street for a while, we turned left onto Castle Steps to ascend to the Nature Reserve. Unfortunately, we only realized at the top at the barrier that the entire area of the rock had a hefty entrance fee. We had expected that museums and attractions would require admission, but apparently, the government decided otherwise and fenced off the entire area. We were disappointed. So we walked back through the Irish quarter and past the Grand Casemates Gates. We crossed the runway again, returning to Spain.

At the beach, we took a break at a small bar and ordered cappuccinos since we still wanted to drive a few more kilometers. After giving our feet some time to recover, we walked back along the beach to Gary. We set off and drove for about another hour to a campsite in Estepona.

Throughout the evening, we listened to football on the radio and then went out to eat at a local restaurant. It was a surprise how excellent the fine dining was here. We were very full and still ordered a tiramisu for dessert. Fortunately, the way to the couch was hardly 100 meters long.
