My Ship 5 - Adriatic with Dubrovnik
July 24 - July 31, 2022
Today we arrive in the coastal city of Dubrovnik. We haven’t booked an excursion; we plan to explore the city on our own.
It’s about 3.5 km or a comfortable 50-minute walk from the port to the Old Town. Since we set out quite early, there isn’t much going on in the Old Town yet. Right by the city walls, tickets for the walls are being sold. At the Chapel of the Holy Savior and the large Onofrio Fountain, we head up the stairs with signs indicating the walking direction. You do not have to walk the full 2 km on the 1-6 meter wide wall. There are exits in between, drinks can be purchased, and the rescue service is on site. It was a very hot day today, but with plenty of fluids, we made one round trip.
After this tour in the glaring sun, we first quench our thirst in the Old Town and then visit other buildings. Here we find the Sponza Palace, the Church of St. Blaise, the Dominican Monastery, the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, the Franciscan Church and Monastery, the Church of the Annunciation, and the Bell Tower. We stroll a bit along the Stradun, the main street of the Old Town, then head back to the ship through the Pile Gate.
A tiring but beautiful morning comes to an end.
Below are some photos. More as always at the top of the gallery.
