Bari and the Trulli Houses

My Ship 5 - Adriatic with Dubrovnik

Our first destination on this cruise is the Italian city of Bari. Today's itinerary includes the excursion 'Panoramic Tour through Apulia'. Bus ride through the region, city tour of Locorotondo, and a visit to a winery in the traditional Trulli style.

As always, we depart on time. We enjoy the bus ride and the explanations from our tour guide in a relaxed manner. During a brief stop, we get our first glimpse of Locorotondo, which we will visit.

After looking at the information board, we proceed through the alleys. Passing by the Chiesa Madre di San Giorgio (Mother Church of Saint George) and the War Memorial.

On our way, we enjoy the view of the Valle d'Itria (Valley of the Trulli) with its traditional round houses.

Upon arriving at the winery, we can visit the privately owned Trulli house. I had expected a bit more. We were also disappointed by the wine tasting.

The tasting was mass processing. You could take 1 plate with cheese and pastries, as well as 1 glass of wine from the table at the entrance. There were no explanations from the winery staff. We had experienced better at other wineries.

On the way back to the ship, we take advantage of our tour guide's offer to get off directly in Bari and explore the city. We gladly take this opportunity for a brief impression of the Castello Normanno-Svevo, the Basilica of San Nicola, the Cathedral of Bari, and the alleys.

I think we will definitely visit Bari again on a later cruise.
