After an exciting night of tropical rainstorms and power outages, we started the day by doing laundry. After the hostel owner washed her clothes by hand with a washboard, we were allowed to use it as well. During our walk to the next town, we noticed that many women washed their laundry in the lake. This is a whole different world here. We chose a more secluded place on the island, where few tourists venture.
The goal of our walk was the San Ramon waterfall. For this, you have to climb about half of the Maderas volcano. The initial walk quickly turned into a over 4-hour hike. But we were rewarded with the wonderful waterfall.
The next morning, we wanted to take a kayak trip to the nearby Monkey Islands, but new rain prevented us from doing so. Since we are not always the most punctual, we were naturally too late at the bus stop. Thank god time is not taken so seriously in Nicaragua, and so the bus arrived half an hour late. We could hardly believe our luck and eagerly looked forward to our next destination: the beautiful colonial city of Granada.
