We traditionally packed our backpacks to 8 kg and set off to Munich. We were headed for a flight to Japan! To Tokyo. The long-awaited destination was within reach. On Saturday morning, we moved to Munich airport, and suddenly we were sitting on a plane to Tokyo, a 12.5-hour journey ahead of us. It passed quite quickly; we had a time shift of 8 hours, so here we are! Even during landing, we were dazzled by the beautiful morning light just before sunrise, and from the plane, we could see the tip of the sacred Mount Fuji, located not far from Tokyo. We landed and were welcomed by a beautiful sunrise. It was 7 AM local time, and the day was just beginning. In Europe, it was 11 PM, so we somehow skipped that night. We wanted to get from the airport to the hotel, drop off our things, and head into the city. We managed to navigate, get through customs, and buy their metro card, which would make traveling in Tokyo easier for us. From the airport we arrived in the city center and were amazed. Everything was modern, heated seats in the trains! And the train network was so dense that it even created an elevated train line, which sometimes went uphill and downhill, making it more like a roller coaster!
We arrived at the hotel in the city center, dropped off our luggage and headed out into town. The first destination was Senso-ji temple – the oldest temple in Tokyo, which is Buddhist. There are giant lanterns at the entrance. We walked through the temple and pagoda and wandered through the network of alleys around. The clinking of metal could be heard everywhere – according to tradition, from the metal boxes at the temple, after tossing a coin and shaking it, a box with a message comes out. Incense was burning everywhere.
From the temple, we crossed the river to the Skytree Tower observation deck. At one time, it was the tallest building in the world. We went up to a height of 450 m and looked at the city from a 360-degree glass dome. It was a great experience. From the observation deck, Mount Fuji was also visible.
