7th Trip: Isle of Skye - Inverness
We leave the beloved Isle of Skye and drive to Inverness. Since our free miles have significantly decreased due to the unplanned car exchange at the beginning of our trip, we have decided to spend the last few days here before heading back to Glasgow.
On the way to Inverness, we pass by Eilean Donan Castle again, and this time we indulge in some history and culture by buying a ticket to visit the romantic castle - something you have to do at least once in Scotland.
If you're a bit interested in it, I can recommend the insight. It's not cheap, but in the morning it's not so crowded (it is one of the most visited castles in Scotland - rightfully so!) and there are some historical background information. The interior of the castle is used as a museum, but it's not dusty at all.
The journey continues along Loch Ness - but no sign of Nessie ;-)
The road leads us past Urquhart Castle.
But since they also make good money with tourists here (without a ticket, you can only admire the parking lot), and we already admired the beautiful Eilean Donan in the morning, we drive on to Inverness to our accommodation.
What can I say, a real bed for the first time in days, soft pillows, a TV - not much happens in this one.
8th Trip: Inverness
The next day we decide to indulge in some more culture and history, as Scotland has a lot to offer in that regard.
We drive to Culloden Battlefield. This is where the historically significant battle between British government troops and rebellious Jacobites took place in 1746, which ended in a massacre in favor of the government troops. A monument and a circular path commemorate this.
After this sad and gloomy history, we drive back to Inverness and explore the city.
