Uist

Uist is an elongated chain of islands. We arrived early at 7:40 am in the far south by ferry from Barra and immediately headed north, as it is said to be more beautiful and natural there. Practically, there is only a narrow road that leads north for over 60 miles. Passing by hilly meadows and lonely farms, it took us almost two hours for the journey.

The selection of campsites is quite modest and we were lucky to snag a very nice one with an even better spot on a hill overlooking a great sandy beach.

In this area, there are often

self-catering places that only offer water and waste disposal. The night costs around £15. One drops the total amount in the 'Honesty Box' before arrival.

We spent the next days with beach walks, biking, reading, playing, and the kids especially with playing in the sand.

Despite total slowing down, we managed to flambé a fly screen while cooking and to bump into the back while reversing. You need a few challenges for home anyway.

Tomorrow we continue to Lewis & Harris before we ferry back to mainland Scotland.
