We spent a total of 5 full days in Rome. We had a few things we definitely wanted to do - the rest was supposed to happen spontaneously.
Our recommendations for you are:
1) The Colosseum and then the Roman Forum. You can easily get tickets online (psst 🤫under 25 you get a special discount on the tickets).
2) the Vatican & St. Peter's Basilica - you can enter St. Peter's Basilica for free. For the ascent or climb to the dome, you have to buy a ticket on site. The visit is definitely worth it and you have a magnificent view over Rome. You absolutely must remember the dress code. Covered knees & shoulders are required (an exposed stomach is not so great either).
3) Visit the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon
4) stroll through the Trastevere district
5) visit the many gelato parlors
And a very important tip: take your time when choosing a restaurant. Often, the places in the second row without barkers are much better - especially in terms of quality.
