Tokyo - Day 2

While we mostly stayed in the old and quieter part of Tokyo yesterday, today was dedicated to the modern, new Tokyo in the Shinjuku district.
First, we visited the expansive Meiji Shrine, the main shrine of Tokyo. The shrine is surrounded by a large forest. Throughout the grounds, there were people writing their prayers on wooden plaques, which were hung next to the shrine and read aloud during the service.
Inside the shrine, there are also colorful barrels of sake that almost form the entire wall. The Japanese characters make it look truly impressive.
Then it was time to venture into the modern city. We walked around the area near the parliament, where real skyscrapers towered into the sky. On the way, we encountered Japanese managers with briefcases, who are said to work until complete exhaustion.
Our next steps took us to the skyscrapers that resemble the head of Godzilla. We were lucky, as it was already dark, and every hour on the hour, Godzilla began to spew flames.
Afterward, we went to a nearby alley where probably the smallest restaurants and stalls in the world are located. People eat completely outside, and there’s only inches of space to pass by.
