The Mills in Bischofsheim

In the immediate surroundings of the house, there is much to discover in Bischofsheim. Along the stream Brend, which flows through the village, we have discovered two mills: the Degetsmühle and the Braunsmühle.

For centuries, the water wheel has been turning due to the flow of water. Today, there is a restaurant with the same name in the house, but the miller of the second mill in the village (Degetsmühle), which is still a craft bakery today, still grinds the rye flour at the Braunsmühle for your bakery.

Following in the footsteps of the old miller of the Braunsmühle, Miller Walter, we hike to the Kreuzberg Monastery. In the 17th century, the mill supplied the monastery with bread.

The Kniebreche

Done! After a sample and quality check, we set off for the monastery on the Kreuzberg. We take the long-established path, the Kniebreche.

The name says it all:

We stay vigilant during the ascent and arrive unscathed, albeit a bit exhausted, with the bread at the monastery. The joy among the monks was probably similar in 1699, and as a thank you, there was a jug of monastery beer.

Then it became clear to me why Miller Walter fell on the steep path and couldn't make it back to Bischofsheim.
