After the BBC issued a thunderstorm warning with a Yellow alert level yesterday (which can mean anything from a few drops of rain to flooding), we decided to take a taxi to bypass the moorland behind Kirkby Stephen and only set off towards Keld from Ravenseat Farm (with its cute little ponies). Our decision was confirmed, among other things, by the initial fog, which quickly cleared. We finally reached Keld by passing through idyllic hilly landscapes, where not a soul was in sight. We felt somewhat as if we had been transported to Tolkien's Shire.
