Chapter 2
Today we wanted to treat ourselves to some particularly beautiful impressions of New York. Compared to the past few days, we have slowed down the pace a bit and started the day in a small café 'just around the corner'. After a short walk through Brooklyn, we took an Uber to the Brooklyn Bridge, which we crossed on foot. So we were four out of 4000 who cross one of the city's most popular photo spots every day... and rightly so. With the best weather, there were great motifs for souvenir photos, which we also used extensively in peace.
After the successful photo session, we took the subway... next stop Grand Central Station. The impressive dome hall is surely familiar to some from movies like Hitchcock's classic 'North by Northwest' or 'Superman: The Movie'.
I was primarily drawn to the oyster bar located there. The family had to come along. My passion is gastronomy... I like the ambience of a restaurant with history, the ambiance is certainly no longer up to date, the prices are high, and the service is a bit moody. But the most important thing is what's on the plate. And that was great! If you like to eat oysters, an absolute MUST in NYC.
The most famous place in New York is Times Square, it is the tourist mecca of the city and everyone knows at least the pictures of the gigantic New Year's Eve party that takes place here every year. Our path now inevitably led us there too. It is colorful, loud, flashy, and somehow entertaining every minute... and it tempted us to linger and observe.
For the grand finale, we decided to go to the Rockefeller Center in the evening... Top of the Rock - probably the most beautiful view of the city, which you have to pay royally for here. But that didn't stop us from enjoying this view live and in color. I think the photos speak for themselves.
Our first stay in New York was completely successful... definitely too short, but simply beautiful. It is off-season, the city is relatively empty, and the weather is great. We saw a lot, experienced a lot, had conversations with friendly locals on the subway, and always felt safe. For us, New York City with over 8 million inhabitants is an absolute recommendation for a trip. I am already sure today that we will come back.
Now it's time to pack our bags and head to Chicago 'the windy city'!
So bundle up, it will probably be chilly...
