The day before yesterday evening I picked up my girlfriend at the airport and we went for dinner and then went to bed relatively early. The next morning, we both started early. We started at 9:00 am to explore the city. Since it was predicted to be up to 33 degrees for this day, we thought that we might be able to escape the heat early. Wrong thinking, it was already 30 degrees and very hot early on. So our first stop was the Riverwalk. As the name suggests, it is a footpath along the Chicago River, which flows into Lake Michigan at its end. The skyscrapers tower above on the left and right. A truly impressive sight. Thanks to the shade and proximity to the water, we could withstand the heat quite well. We walked to the lake and then along the waterfront promenade to Buckingham Fountain. A huge fountain with the skyline of Chicago in the background. Due to the heat, we went back to the hotel for a while. We took a lunch break there and in the evening we took a big walk along the Magnificent Mile, a very long shopping street, to Oak Beach, a city beach. Today it was also very warm, but due to a cool breeze from the lake, quite bearable. The destination today was the Navy Pier. A huge dock that extends far into Lake Michigan. On this pier, there was a huge food court and a ferris wheel, typical American. After a short break, we walked back to the hotel and took another long lunch break. Tonight we want to explore Chicago at night again and walk to the Buckingham Fountain again. Tomorrow morning we will fly to Boston and hope for good, but maybe not quite so hot weather :)
