The second part of my journey through Norway went from Trondheim to Bodø (pronounced Buda).
Time passes
It has truly been a while since I passed Trondheim. Unfortunately, I did not get to explore the city as there was a traffic chaos upon my arrival, and the 'Bobilheim', as it is beautifully called here in Norway, was already booked out.
The cool and wild center
Thus, my drive continued straight north. I hiked in the beautiful Borgefjell National Park where I even walked over snow. I crossed the border into 'North Norway', which gradually made me feel closer to the northernmost point of Europe.
I passed by a stunning lake and had to stop. The mirror-smooth water and the mountain range behind it captivated me. It was so beautifully sunny that I jumped in and then spent some time relaxing on the shore in the sun.
In Mo I Rana, I saw the famous ski jumps from a distance.
Crossing the Arctic Circle, sentimental
From there, I took a detour along the E6 to the Arctic Circle Center. It was a special feeling that washed over me when I realized how far Emma and I had already come. The distance to the North Cape is now shorter than the distance to home.
However, since I wanted to drive the last stretch to Bodø along the scenic Route 17, I drove back through Mo I Rana toward the coast. On the way, I enjoyed a beautiful hike through the Bredekrunden trail, which led past a spectacular waterfall, several swinging hanging bridges, and two old farming villages. There was even a hut with two beds and a wood stove available for overnight stays.
Route 17
The coastal road once again took my breath away. Now, the tall majestic peaks lined the open sea. The dimensions amazed me yet again. I spent a night at the Polarcamp, where I was treated to freshly caught and prepared fish & chips by the owners.
On my way further, I passed the Svartisen glacier, which also impressed me greatly.
Bodø
In Bodø, I went for a small hike up the Keiservarden, from where you could see a beautiful view of hundreds of small islands off the coast. In the evening, I treated myself to some time in the wellness area of the Wood Hotel, where I enjoyed the midnight sun with a sauna and infinity pool.
Learnings
This adventure here is amazing, yet my biggest learning is to be present in the here and now. Not to focus too much on the future route and my time management. To not put so much pressure on myself and to take breaks. This is not a vacation and I am not coming home in two weeks; this is my life now, and it definitely requires a different approach. A new daily routine, new to-dos, and space for development and processing are necessary. I am continuing to work on this and am curious how the journey will change in the coming months.
I have adjusted my daily morning routine, which has always consisted of yoga, to the current situation and possibilities and how I feel. I am experiencing a lot of grounding that might have been missing in the past few years.
Until next time
Namaste & all my love
Emma & Michie
